Lakers C Bynum has successful surgery

El Segundo, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum underwent successful surgery to repair a tear of the meniscus in his right knee, the team announced Wednesday.

The arthroscopic procedure was performed by Dr. David Altchek in New York.

Bynum, who had the knee drained on June 22, suffered the tear in Game 6 of the Lakers' first-round playoff series against Oklahoma City, but still started all 23 of the team's postseason games. He averaged 8.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.57 blocks to help the Lakers to their second consecutive NBA title.

Bynum, 22, played in 65 regular-season games for Los Angeles this past season, posting 15.0 points and 8.3 boards per game.
