Chiefs sign second round picks Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Chiefs have signed second round draft choices Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. McCluster was the 36th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Mississippi, where he finished second on the school's all-time all-purpose yardage list (4,089) behind only Deuce McAllister. He left as the seventh leading rusher in Rebels' history with 1,955 yards, including 1,169 last season, which was also the second highest single season total in school history. In 2009, he became the first player in Southeastern Conference history to run for 1,000 yards and collect 500 yards (520) receiving in the same season. Arenas was the 50th overall selection in the draft and was a key member of Alabama's national championship team in 2009. After the Tide had scored to increase their lead to 31-21 with two minutes to go in the BCS Championship game, Arenas intercepted Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert which led to the final touchdown in the 37-21 victory. Last season, Arenas made 65 tackles, intercepted five passes and returned 32 punts for 493 yards and one touchdown that made him the SEC's all-time leader in punt return scores. The Chiefs also signed tight end Leroy Banks. 07/28 20:44:38 ET |
